It’s On Sale: Saphir shine kit
Shoe products are of those necessities that are rarely on sale and can add up in cost quickly. Fortunately, Wingtip is having a flash sale today, and one of the products available is a starter shine kit from Saphir. It’s down to $33 from $110 and contains 5 polishes and two polishing cloths. Saphir polish is great stuff and this will make a wonderful backbone to any shoe care kit. Note that this package does not include Renovateur or any of the creme polishes (both of which I use more often than the high-gloss wax). Peter Agati, our Director of Footwear and resident shoe expert, takes a moment to give us the low down on the Paul Stuart English Buck:
While many of us regularly wear more neutral or darker bucks year round, summer is the quintessential time to step out in a classic light or white buck. The traditional way to wear a summer buck is, of course, without socks. Unfortunately, today most bucks have synthetic or composite linings that degrade with sockless wear. The Paul Stuart buck, I’m pleased to say, is not only made in England and Goodyear welted, but, owing to the fact that it is lined in calf-skin with a full-grain leather insole, it ensures bare foot comfort throughout even the warmest of summer days.
This season we have the classic white and sky blue bucks with durable red brick soles. We’ve also brought in a natty line of two-tone saddle bucks with leather soles, a great canvas saddle, and a new suede long wing.
The care and feeding of light-colored nubucks is really a personal preference, some see a worn, scuffed buck as part of their charm; others strive to keep them clean. To minimize scuffing and dirt on white bucks I recommend using a proper suede bar and brush regularly. I’ve also used a natural gum eraser in a pinch. Nubuck can also be treated with a water and stain protector like Meltonian. And, in the case of the summer classic white buck, a chalk bag is the indispensable aid.
